Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
We often feel stuck because we believe that who we are , what we do or what we have is the best we can, or just is – even though it may be painful or frustrating (or most likely both). The problem is that we are looking at things from our own perspective ā from the perspective of our own created version of reality which we have accepted to be the truth. We do this because it feels familiar and familiarity offers a sense of comfort and safety. Unconsciously, we always chose safety over change because we are afraid of the unknown.
The process of NLP challenges your learnt reality and helps you to create a new empowering reality, a reality which serves you in all possible ways where anything that may be currently weighing you down feels lighter and brighter.
NLP is a highly effective intervention that helps with overcoming fears, limiting beliefs, negative behaviours, bad habits, stress, phobias and various states of discomfort, anxiety and dissatisfaction. Simply speaking, it is a powerful intervention that allows you leave anything that is not serving you behind so that you can become who you want to be.
NLP is fundamentally the study of excellence, which describes how the language of our mind produces our behaviour which in turn produces the results we get. It allows us to model excellence , to reproduce excellent behaviour which in turn produces excellent results.
If you break down the name, it helps explain what itās all about:
Neuro
This part stands for our mind and how we think. It represents our brain, nervous system and the mental pathways of our five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling).
Linguistic
Linguistic represents how we use verbal and non-verbal language and how it affects us. It shows us how our words mirror our mental worlds and addresses our silent language of postures, gestures and habits.
Programming
Programming means in this context how we take particular action steps in order to achieve our goals. Our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and actions are habitual programs which we can change.
History
NLP was created by Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder in the early 1970s in California. Bandler and Grinder wanted to discover how successful people achieve their results and to then learn how to replicate their models. They began by modelling highly effective therapists and moved on to sales executives, negotiators, public speakers, trainers and leaders. Very soon they had drawn together the very best personal change tools from a variety of disciplines plus models of excellence for different subjects. Such tools have been used worldwide by literally millions of people to achieve significant results in all areas of personal and professional lives.
Ā Ā Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you are right, you will prove it to yourself. – Henry Ford
What people say…
“Sonja helped me with my presentation and public speaking skills. She was very professional and her coaching style made it very easy for me to open up which made it a very pleasant experience. We identified a limiting belief that was blocking me and she helped me overcome this by replacing it with an empowering belief. This allowed me to really believe in myself. Sonja’s NLP skills make her a very effective coach and I would like to work more with her in the future.”
“Sonja has helped me enormously with a phobia I have. Sonja’s calm approach has enabled me to benefit from the NLP sessions I had with her. I feel my life has been transformed because I do not worry or feel as panicked by the triggers of my phobia. Last December I was able to join colleagues on an international business trip. Sonja’s NLP sessions helped me board that plane and have one of the most enjoyable trips of my life. I was able to be part of the team and participate in the activities whilst I was in Arizona. I could not have done this without Sonja’s help and patience.Ā Sonja is a true professional and knows exactly how to help those with triggers that cause panic. I cannot thank Sonja enough for helping me work through my issues and to enable me to eventuality find the freedom to live my life.”
“Sonja helped me with regaining my confidence in social situations. She made me think differently in relaxing sessions. She put me at ease and I found it very helpful. I have now learnt to have positive thoughts as opposed to negativity. I look forward to socialising rather than declining invitations and staying home!”
